Akeem Scott begins his third year as head coach of the men’s basketball program at Midway University in 2025-26.
Scott began his tenure in record-setting fashion, as the Eagles set a program record for most decisive win and most points in a season opener in their 109-69 win over Virginia Lynchburg. Behind a more fast-paced offense, Midway also set program records for most made 3-pointers in a game (16 vs. Brescia, Dec. 2, 2023) and most points in a road game (106 vs. Indiana East, Feb. 3, 2024). Midway's four 100-point games were also a school record.
Records continued to fall in Scott's second season. On Jan. 30, 2025, the Eagles defeated Indiana Columbus 109-59, the 50-point margin of victory the largest ever recorded by an Eagle team. Midway also made a team-record 31 free throws against Bethel on Nov. 15, 2024.
Scott came to Midway after spending the 2022-23 season as an assistant coach with the boys’ basketball team at Montgomery County High School.
His previous collegiate stop came from 2017-2022 when he served as the head men’s basketball coach at his Alma mater, Kentucky Christian University. In his first season, he led the Knights to the Elite Eight of the 2018 NCCAA DII Men’s Basketball Championship. He also had two players that would be named NCCAA All-Americans from that team.
Prior to his stop at Kentucky Christian, from 2015-17, Scott was the assistant women’s basketball coach and recruiting coordinator at West Virginia State University, an NCAA DII institution in Institute, West Virginia.
From 2012-14, he was the assistant women’s basketball coach (2012-13) and the associate head women’s basketball coach (2013-14) at Asbury University. During those two seasons, Scott assisted in leading the Eagles to a 48-17 record and the KIAC (now the River States Conference) Regular Season Title in 2013-14.
Scott began his coaching career at Kentucky Christian, where he was an assistant men’s basketball coach from 2008-09. During that season, he led the Knights to the NCCAA DII National Tournament while he assisted in coaching two First Team All-Americans.
Prior to joining the coaching ranks, he enjoyed a successful playing career. He played professionally with the Kentucky Basketball Developmental League (KBDL), the American Basketball Association (ABA), and the Professional Basketball League (PBL).
Scott graduated from Kentucky Christian University in 2008 when he obtained his Bachelor of Science in University Studies/Biblical Studies. He also earned a Master of Information Systems from the University of Phoenix in 2009.
Coach Scott and his wife Jennifer have three daughters, Alexandria, Ciera, and Olivia, and two grandkids, Easton and Elias.
