Ed McKinney begins his third season as the archery head coach at Midway University in 2024-25.
Under McKinney's guidance, the 2023-24 Eagles had their best finish at the Mid-South Conference Outdoor Championships since 2019. Midway also sent three shooters (McKenna Harrington, Carrie Booth and Jessica Badgett) to the USA Archery Collegiate Target National Tournament.
McKinney was named the archery head coach in July 2022 and came to Midway following a three-year stint as the head coach at Georgetown College (Ky.). He was hired in 2019 to restart the program before helping lead the team to their first competitive season in 2020-21.
Under McKinney's leadership, the Tigers had numerous archers earn medals in state and national tournaments. They also had student-athletes selected to the All-Southeast Regional Archery Team and the USA Archery All-Academic Team.
Before joining the collegiate coaching ranks, McKinney implemented the National Archery in Schools Program (NASP) at Anne Mason Elementary School and Royal Spring Middle School.
During his time at Anne Mason Elementary, they won multiple tournaments and individual championships. With McKinney at the helm, the Royal Spring Middle School archery team was ranked in the top 10 in Kentucky and top 25 nationally.
He also started the Central Kentucky Junior Olympic Archery Program, where he built the program from 12 archers in 2018 to over 60 archers from nine counties in Kentucky.
A lifelong learner committed to education, McKinney holds a Doctorate and three Master's Degrees. He's also spent years in the public school system and as an adjunct professor at the college level.
