KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Midway University men's cross country team returned to the trails on Friday morning as they competed in the NAIA Appalachian Challenge. While the Eagles finished in ninth place with 228 total points, it was a record-breaking day for Jacob Kocis, the reigning River States Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week.
For the third consecutive meet, history has been made as Kocis, a sophomore from Island Pond, Vt. smashed his own Midway men's cross-country record over 8K. Kocis completed the course in a time of 24:45.8 which broke his own record, set at the Jenna Strong Invitational one week ago, by 29 seconds. His time was good enough to finish seventh in a field of 128 runners.
Younger brother Josiah Kocis (Island Pond, Vt.) was the second Eagle to cross the finish line when he wrapped up his race in 28th place with a time of 26:04.6.
Luke Logan (Elizabethtown, Ky.) finished his 8K in a time of 28:09.82 and he was followed by Ethan Vitello (Jaffrey, N.H.) who ran a 28:53.1. Ethan Tomasso (Woodstown, N.J.) completed the Eagles quintet of runners, posting a time of 33:32.6.
The Eagles will return to action in the River States Conference Men's Cross Country Championship on Saturday, November 5. The race is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. in Kokomo, Indiana.
