VERSAILLES, Ky. - Midway earned a pair of wins on the women's side, but in-state opponent Union proved too strong in a swim dual in Versailles Friday.
The Bulldogs earned a 163-62 win in women's competition and won every race on the men's side to claim a 189-49 victory.
WOMEN'S RACE
In one of the tightest races of the night,
Kaelynn Martin was able to eek out a win in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing ahead of Union's Emma Phillips by just .03 seconds, Martin touched the wall in 1:02.97.
The Eagles' other win came in the 200 butterfly, where
Sammy Friel finished in 2:24.69.
Individual runners-up for Midway were
Isabel Flores in the 100 breaststroke (1:19.61) and 100 fly (1:12.66), and Maddie Richey in the 200 backstroke (2:30.75).Â
In relays, the team of Richey,
Katie Heath, Friel and Flores took second in both the 200 medley (2:02.47) and 200 free (1:53.20).
MEN'S RACE
The Eagle men had second-place finishes in four events, two of which were earned by
Jack Logan.
Logan swam a 2:01.20 in the 200 free and a 5:37.69 in the 500 free.
Elsewhere,
Challen Waychoff was second in the 200 back in 2:23.11 with the team of David Roach,
Jacob Williams,
Brad Blanchard and
Jalen Wright taking second in the 200 medley relay in 1:42.94.
The Eagles are back at home Saturday, where they will take on both Shawnee State and Pikeville at 1 p.m. Fifteen minutes prior to the races, the team will hold a Senior Day celebration.
