VERSAILLES, Ky. - The Midway men's swimming team opened the season with split in a triangular meet at the Falling Springs Center Saturday.
The Eagles secured a 124-59 victory against Pikeville and a 117-86 loss to West Virginia Tech.
Midway earned wins in three events, with two of them coming by freshmen.
Caique Nunes Maia and
Braydon Johnson both got wins in their collegiate debuts. Maia set a new school record in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.90 with Johnson winning the 50 back in 2:25.27.
The day's other win came from senior
Daniel Maia, who finished the 200 breaststroke in 2:31.20.
Daniel Maia also took second in three events, including a 2:01.09 swim in the 200 free.
In the 400 medley relay, Maia, Johnson, Burton and
Jeremiah Hervey were second in 4:11.80. In the 200 free, the Mais,
Jalen Wright and
Caua Kreia were runners-up in 1:31.98.
Other second-place swims came from Wright in the 100 back (1:02.65) and Kreia in the 500 free (5:26.68).
The Eagles have a short turnaround, as they will travel to Danville, Ky. to face Centre on Tuesday.
