MARION, Ind. - The Midway men's and women's swim teams grabbed a combined four wins in a dual at Indiana Wesleyan Saturday against a Wildcat program ranked in the NAIA top-25.
The Eagles men lost the the No. 23 Wildcats 145-65, while the women were defeated 158-61 by IWU's No. 10-ranked team.
MEN'S RESULTS
Caique Nunes Maia earned his third win in as many events this season, swimming a 1:00.93 to take first in the 100-yard breaststroke. He also finished as the runner-up in the 200 individual medley, swimming a 2:07.24.
Midway got freestyle wins from
Jalen Wright and
Daniel Maia. Wright won the 50 in 22.66 while Maia won the 500 in 5:34.16.
The two Maias, Wright and
Caua Kreia also teamed up for two second-place relays. The group swam a 3:49.50 in the 400 medley and a 1:34.68 in the 200 free, losing by less than a second in both races.
Elsewhere,
Braydon Johnson was second in the 1,000 free in 11:48.13, Kreia was third in the 200 free in 1:59.26 and
Rider Burton was third in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.64.
WOMEN'S RESULTS
The Eagle women were victorious in the 1,000 free, where
Pamela Ramires swam an 11:54.19, coming in more than 20 seconds ahead of the rest of field.
Midway took a total of seven second-place finishes, with
Kaelynn Martin and
Josie Briner combining for seven between individual races and relays.
Martin swam a 1:02.78 in the 100 backstroke and a 1:04.57 in the 100 fly.
Briner lost by less than a second in both the 50 and 200 free. She swam a 26.25 in the 50 and a 2:02.97 in the 200.
The pair also swam with
Dyllan Hebert and
Jailey Thacker in the 400 medley relay, finishing in 4:21.06. In the 200 free relay, Martin,
Sydney Eastman,
Amber Klose and
Elizabeth Dolberry were second in 1:47.25.
Klose also took a second in the 100 breast (1:14.04) while Eastman was third in the 200 IM (2:23.38).
The men's and women's swim teams will travel to Portsmouth, Ohio next Saturday for a quad meet featuring Shawnee State, West Virginia Tech and Pikeville. Competition will begin at 1 p.m.
