DANVILLE, Ky. - Midway won the doubles point and held a 3-2 lead before Centre closed out the last two singles matches to win 4-3 in the Eagles' first match of the spring on Wednesday.
After losing the opening set 6-1,
Tanit Cevada rallied for wins of 6-3 and 10-8 in the last two over Kennedy Herring at No. 3, leaving Midway one win away from taking the match.
But the Colonels proved too strong at the fourth and fifth singles spots, winning both in straight sets to secure the win.
In the loss, returning second-team All-American
Agustina Olivero came out in mid-season form, winning easily at both the No. 1 singles and doubles spots.
She and
Mara Guillen defeated Natalie Black and Herring 6-3 in doubles, before she took down Carlie Miller 6-2, 6-0 in singles.
Angelia Herrera and
Nana Hishida secured the doubles point at No. 3, easily handling Kayla Harger and Skylar Keese 6-1.
Midway is off until March 3 when they will embark on a four-match-in-five-day run, starting with a matchup with Tennessee Southern in Pulaski, Tenn.
