BEREA, Ky. - Midway continued
an excellent start to outdoor track and field season with a first-place showing at the Landon Bond Classic Saturday.
The Eagles won five events and were second in two others en route to a victory at a 14-team event hosted by Berea College. The Eagles, who have won 12 events in the first two meets of the outdoor season, finished with 109 points, 24 more than runner-up Maryville (Tenn.) in the final standings.
After combining for three wins at the March 22 Pioneer Invitational,
Cole Sexton and
Austin Ratliff both returned to the first-place podium Saturday. Sexton won the shot put with a throw of 45.19 meters while Ratliff was pole vault champion at a height of 3.75.
After taking second in the high jump at the Pioneer Invitational,
Brayden Carson came out on top with a leap of 1.83 meters Saturday.
Individually on the track side, Midway had the top-two finishes in the 1,500-meter run.
Carson Milner won in 4:04.90 with
Josiah Kocis just behind in 4:09.30.
In relays,
Javari Burnett,
Tyler Withers,
Bowen Workman and
Abdul Salaah were victorious in the 4x100, crossing the finish line in 43.56 seconds.
The Eagles' other runner-up performance produced a program-record, as
Elie Mugisha finished in 50.50 seconds in the 400.
Others making the top five were
Ben Jones in the 110 hurdles (third, 15.80), Sexton in shot put (third, 13.67), Withers in the 200 (fifth, 22.47), Karl Livingtson Jr. in high jump (fifth, 1.73) and Carson in long jump (fifth, 5.87).
The Eagles look to continue their great start to 2025 at the Jim Vargo Bellarmine Invitational, which will be held in Louisville on Friday and Saturday.
