MILL SPRING, N. C. - Midway University's
Reese Dorsey was crowned the limit flat national champion at the IHSA Hunt Seat National Championships at the Tyron International Center on Friday.
Midway head coach
Heath Gunnison said he believed Dorsey was Midway's first hunt seat national champion since 2004, though available records could not confirm that information.
Additionally, Dorsey earned an eight-place finish in the limit over fences.
Gunnison had the following to say about Reese's performance: "Reese rode smooth, steady, and consistent throughout the whole class. Already a soft, effective rider, we had been tweaking a couple of things in our preparation for nationals. After the original 16 riders showed, the judges then proceeded with three different test phases in an already competitive class, so to see her come out in the top spot was quite exciting and rewarding."
Dorsey, a sophomore from Parkton, Md., qualified for nationals after first-place showings in limit over flat and limit over fences
at IHSA Zones in April. She also won a limit over fences crown
at IHSA Regionals in March.
