MIDWAY, Ky. -- Midway University has announced the hiring of Roy McMillen as the new head coach of the women's flag football program which will make its debut in 2026-27.

McMillen, who was a 2008 National Flag Football Hall of Fame Inductee, brings more than two decades of coaching experience to Midway. He's a nationally recognized coach and program builder, who has earned multiple national championships.

"We're excited to welcome Coach McMillen to Midway," stated Dr. Heath Morgan, Vice President of Athletics & Student Affairs. His extensive experience, championship pedigree, and commitment to student-athlete development make him the ideal leader to build our women's flag football program."

McMillen most recently served as a head coach in women's tackle football, where he led his team to a national championship in 2021 and a runner-up finish in 2022.

Throughout his career, he has demonstrated success in building competitive programs, implementing effective offensive and defensive systems, and developing high-character student-athletes.

In addition to his coaching success, McMillen has played a key role in the growth of women's football. He is a national champion as both a player and coach in women's flag football and was inducted into the National Flag Football Hall of Fame in 2008.

McMillen also was the head coach of the Kentucky Xtreme Arena Football from 2015-16 and served two stints as the assistant coach with the Louisville Fire Arena Football from 2001-03 and 2006-08.

"I am honored to be named the first women's flag football head coach at Midway University," stated McMillen. "With my experience and passion for the game, along with the outstanding opportunities that Midway offers, I look forward to building a competitive program and support the academic and athletic growth of our student-athletes."

McMillen graduated from Western Kentucky University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Recreation & Sport Management.
