Midway University football to move to NAIA, joining MSFA in 2027-28

MIDWAY, Ky. -- Midway University is pleased to announce that its football program will transition to full NAIA football and join the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) beginning with the 2027-28 academic year.

"We are excited for the opportunity to join the Mid-States Football Association and compete in one of the premier conferences in NAIA football," said Dr. Heath Morgan, Vice President of Athletics & Student Affairs. "This move represents another important step in the continued growth of our football program and provides our student-athletes with the opportunity to compete against outstanding programs while enhancing the overall visibility of Midway University Athletics."

Established in 1994, the Mid-States Football Association is an NAIA-affiliated conference that spans four states and three major Midwest metropolitan areas such as Chicago, Detroit, and Indianapolis.

The MSFA is comprised of 15 teams across two divisions — the MSFA Mideast League and the MSFA Midwest League. Members compete against each team within their league in addition to crossover games against other MSFA opponents from the opposite division. The champion of each division receives an automatic berth into the NAIA Football Championship Series, provided it is ranked among the top 20 in the final NAIA Coaches' Poll.

The MSFA is widely regarded as one of the premier conferences in NAIA football and has produced nine NAIA National Champions, including six since 2011.

Additional details regarding Midway's future MSFA schedule and divisional alignment will be announced at a later date.
