Women's Soccer defeats KCU in Breast Cancer Awareness Game

Midway, Ky. – After playing their last two games on the road, the Midway University women's soccer team returned to the friendly confines of the Midway Soccer Field on Tuesday afternoon when they hosted Kentucky Christian.

Midway held the possession throughout the match as they scored four goals in the first half and another in the second en route to a 5-0 victory over the visiting Knights (3-9).

The Eagles (7-3-2) dominated the Knights as they held an 18-4 advantage in shots, including a 10-3 upper hand in shots on goal.

Getting the Eagles off on the right foot was freshman, Regan Snyder (Monroe, Ohio). Snyder used her speed to get behind the Kentucky Christian defense as she converted a one-on-one opportunity against the goalie giving her team the 1-0 lead in the second minute.

The lead would double to 2-0 in the 20th minute thanks to Larissa Cussins (Cheyenne, Wyo.). Cussins passed a corner kick to Sara Herbert (Louisville, Ky.) and she passed it back out to a wide open Cussins who floated it over the goalies outstretched arms and into the back of the net.

Kindsay Miller-Riney (Bardstown, Ky.) would then get loose and score back-to-back goals making the lead swell to 4-0.

Miller-Riney's first goal would come in the 27th minute when she weaved her way through the box and found and open space and fired a ball passed the keeper and into the back of the net making the lead 3-0.

Her second goal would come six minutes later in the 33rd minute. Rachel Lewis (Ajax, Ontario) played a perfect ball ahead of Miller-Riney who snuck behind the defense and fired the ball at the far post and into the back of the net.

The lead would stand at 4-0 in favor of Midway at halftime, but it wasn't too long after intermission before the Eagles added to their lead to make the final score 5-0.

Once again it was Cussins, but this time she did the assisting. Cussins fired a corner kick into the box and connected with Carrie Isaacs (Lexington, Ky.), who headed the ball over the goalies arms and into the back of the net.

Combining for the shutout in goal for the Eagles was the duo of senior, Lauren Schuster (Boston, Ky.) and freshman, Rebekah McKee (Rossville, Ky.).

Schuster picked up her third win of the season after she started the game and played a total of 79 minutes and 27 seconds in goal. She finished with three saves. McKee played the final 10:33 in goal for the Eagles.

Midway is back in action on Saturday, October 22, when they host Brescia (Ky.) for Senior Day in a River States Conference matchup beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
