Eagle volleyball grounded by IU Kokomo

Midway, Ky. – The Midway University volleyball was fighting an uphill battle on Friday night when they hosted the second ranked team in the River States Conference West Division – the Indiana University Kokomo Cougars.

The Cougars (17-5, 7-1 RSC) showcased why they were the second best team in the West Division as they came away with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-22 and 25-8) sweep of the Eagles (7-21, 0-8 RSC) inside Marshall Gymnasium.

The Cougars used a 13-6 run midway through the first set as they won the frame 25-19. The Eagles trailed 9-3 early in the second set as they came back to cut the lead to two, 17-15, but Cougars proved to be too much as they came away with the 25-22. Then in the third frame, IU Kokomo tallied a .455 hitting clip as they dominated the set winning 25-8.

Junior hitter, Ricky Bowers (Long Beach, Calif.) led the way on offense for the Eagles. Bowers finished with nine kills as she hit .412 for the match. She also finished with two solo blocks and two block assists.

Molly O'Bryan (Cox's Creek, Ky.) guided the offense as she finished with a team-high nine assists and added five digs. Hannah Payne (Louisville, Ky.) and Katie Roush (Malta, Ill.) led the defense with 11 and 10 digs, respectively.

The Eagles will have a quick turnaround as they are right back in action tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. ET against Ohio Christian. Later in the day at 4 p.m. ET the Eagles will take on Indiana University East.
