Eagles grounded by Ohio Christian and IU East in RSC Crossover

Wilmore, Ky. -- The Midway University volleyball team was back in action on Saturday afternoon when they traveled to nearby Wilmore to take on Ohio Christian University and Indiana University East in a River States Conference crossover.

In their first match of the day, the Eagles would battle Ohio Christian. After splitting the first two sets, the Trailblazers (11-18, 4-9 RSC) came back and won the third and fourth sets to win the match 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-21, 25-17).

Then, in their second match of the day, Midway took on IU East. The Red Wolves (14-17, 8-4 RSC) tallied a .309 hitting percentage as they swept the Eagles (6-21, 0-10 RSC) in straight sets 3-0 (25-12, 25-23, 25-14).

Match 1 - Ohio Christian 3, Midway 1

The Trailblazers hit .168 for the match with 42 kills in 137 swings, while Midway had a .076 attacking percentage with 35 kills in 145 attempts. Ohio Christian served up 12 aces for the match, while the Eagles had 14 service errors in the loss.

Leading the way for Midway was senior, Jennifer Harden (Houston, Texas). Harden finished with 14 kills in the match. Fellow senior, Tayler Johnson (Elk Grove, Calif.) added eight kills and a .350 hitting clip with two solo blocks and two block assists.

After picking up her 1,000th career assist earlier in the week, junior setter, Ashley Sherrard continued to add to her total. The Louisville, Ky. native collected 30 of her teams 31 assists. She finished one dig short of a double-double as she had nine digs for the match.

Defensively, Midway was led by junior, Kylie Flatt (Louisville, Ky.). Flatt finished with a match-high 22 digs, while fellow junior, Hannah Payne (Louisville, Ky.) added 14 digs. Harden also pitched in with eight digs to go with her 14 kills.

Match 2 - IU East 3, Midway 0

In the match against Indiana University East, Midway struggled to slow down the Red Wolves as they hit .309 for the match. Midway on the other hand tallied a .116 hitting clip. The Red Wolves collected 43 kills to Midway's 25.

Senior's, Jennifer Harden and Tayler Johnson led the offensive attack for the Eagles. Harden had nine kills and Johnson had seven, while three other Eagles added three kills apiece. Harden also added eight digs to her stat line.

Ashley Sherrard guided the offense and collected 20 assists in the loss. She also added six digs and a team-high three service aces.

Leading the way for the defense was junior, Hannah Payne. The libero tallied a team-high 15 digs for the Eagles. Kylie Flatt also added seven digs.
