Red Wolves soar past Eagles in straight sets

RICHMOND, Ind. -- The Midway University volleyball team was back in action on Friday night when they traveled to Richmond, Indiana to battle Indiana University East in a River States Conference matchup.

It was a tough night for the Midway offense as the Red Wolves (19-6, 9-2 RSC) held the visitors to a negative hitting percentage en route to the 3-0 victory (25-12, 25-14, 25-21).

Indiana University East held the Eagles (7-19, 3-7 RSC) to a -.067 hitting percentage for the match, while the Red Wolves collected a .198 attacking clip in the win. The home team more than doubled the Eagles in kills holding a 35-15 advantage.

After a tough first two sets, the Eagles started to click in the third set, but unfortunately, it was too-little-too-late. IU East went on a 9-3 run to grab a 22-16 lead, but Midway cut the deficit to three after a 4-1 run. The Red Wolves scored the final two points to win the set and the match.

Ashley Sherrard (Louisville, Ky.) led the Midway offense with seven kills and a .143 hitting percentage. Kylie Flatt (Louisville, Ky.) was the next closest with three kills. Flatt also collected five digs in the loss.

Madi Eberst (Chillicothe, Ohio) split time with Sherrard running the offense as Eberst finished with seven assists to go with four digs, while Sherrard added three assists and three digs to go with her seven kills.

The Midway defense was led by Ashlee Simpson (Somerset, Ky.) with 14 digs.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday at noon ET in Circleville, Ohio to take on Ohio Christian University when they wrap up a three-game road swing.
