MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- It was announced by the River States Conference office on Monday, October 8, that Ashlee Simpson was named the River States Conference Volleyball Defender of the Week for her performance on the court the week of October 1-7.
The weekly honor is the second of the season and second of the career for the freshman. She also won the award a few weeks ago on September 3.
The freshman from Somerset, Ky. posted a big week last week as Midway went 1-1 with a win over Cincinnati Christian (Ohio) and a loss to the RSC West Divisional leader, Indiana University Kokomo.
In Midway's 3-0 loss to IU Kokomo on Saturday, October 6, Simpson recorded a match-high 14 digs to lead the Midway defense.
She began the week with a career performance in a 3-1 victory over Cincinnati Christian on Friday, October 5. In the win, Simpson collected a career-high 45 digs.
She finished the week with 59 total digs for an average of 8.42 digs per set.
The 2018 Southwestern High School graduate has now amassed 469 digs on the season and is averaging 6.51 digs per set on the year.
Simpson ranks second in the River States in total digs (469), while she leads the conference in digs per set (6.51). Nationally she ranks 17th in the country in total digs and fourth in the NAIA with 6.51 digs per set.
Simpson and the Eagles are back in action on Tuesday, October 9, when they host Alice Lloyd (Ky.) at 7 p.m. ET inside Marshall Gymnasium.
