Women's Volleyball suffers straight sets loss at IU Southeast

NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- Coming off a non-conference victory in straight sets over Cincinnati-Clermont (Ohio) on Wednesday, the Midway women's volleyball team stepped back into River States Conference play on Friday with a road matchup at IU Southeast (Ind.).

Earlier this season on September 26, the Eagles defeated the Grenadiers for the first time in program history with a thrilling five-set victory. Unfortunately for the Blue and Gold, Friday's matchup was a bit different.

This time around, the Grenadiers controlled the match from the first serve as they cruised to the 3-0 victory (25-20, 25-15, 25-21) in straight sets.

Midway, who falls to 13-5 overall and 8-4 in league play following the loss, struggled to find an offensive rhythm as they carded just 26 kills, while committing 20 errors for a .049 hitting clip.

The Grenadiers, who improve to 6-6 overall and 6-5 in conference play with the win, managed to collect 40 kills in 124 attempts for a .169 attacking percentage.

One of the bright spots for the Eagles was the play of junior libero, Mariana Rodriguez. A native of Houston, Texas, Rodriguez carded a match-high 22 digs, while Alysha Tullar (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) chipped in nine digs.

Brooke Trompler (Campton, Ky.) led the offensive effort with eight kills to go with her 12 digs on the defensive end. Annessa Roysdon (Monticello, Ky.), meanwhile, carded four kills and six assists, while Kaylee Criswell (Rockdale, Texas) added four kills in eight swings.

Jonea Rima's club will now have a quick turnaround as they head to Owensboro on Saturday morning for a River States Conference matchup at Brescia (Ky.). First serve is set for 1 p.m. ET.
