MIDWAY, Ky. -- It was announced on Monday, January 18, that Allyson Callahan of the Midway University women's basketball team had been named the River States Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan 11-17.
The weekly honor is the first of the season for Callahan, while it is the second of her career. She previously won the honor in Dec. 2019. She becomes the third different Midway player to earn the honor this season joining Jalyn Jackson (Alexandria, Ky.) and Leah Shelley (LaCenter, Ky.).
The senior from Morehead, Ky. posted a big-time week to help lead Midway to a perfect 3-0 mark including a pair of road victories at Brescia (Ky.) and Cincinnati-Clermont (Ohio) and a home win over Asbury (Ky.).
Callahan finished the week averaging 17.7 point, 9.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.3 steals per contest. She also shot 41.3 percent from the floor and 52.4 percent from behind the arc.
In a 70-58 victory over Brescia, Callahan posted her first double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds. She also hit 4-of-7 from downtown in the win.
After finishing with six points and eight boards against Cincinnati-Clermont, the senior posted her best performance of the season in a 74-63 win over Asbury. She finished with 26 points, nine rebounds, seven steals and four assists, while hitting 9-of-17 overall and 6-of-8 from three.
Following last week's performances, Callahan is now averaging 11.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. She is also shooting 36.2 percent from three which ranks seventh in the RSC. She ranks third in three-point field goals made (25), while ranking fifth in both scoring (141) and three-point field goals made per game (2.08)
After carding three wins last week, Midway pushed their win streak to five improving to 7-5 on the season. They're scheduled to return to action on Tuesday (Jan 19) when they travel to Alice Lloyd (Ky.).
