Box Score

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. -- After having the last week off since their last competition, the Midway women's soccer team returned to action on Thursday when they traveled to Oakland City (Ind.) for a River States Conference tilt.

It was a tough outing for the Eagles as they failed to crack the scoring column, while the Mighty Oaks scored one in the first half and three more in the second en route to the 4-0 shutout victory.

Following the loss, Midway drops to 4-7 overall and 2-5 in River States Conference play, while Oakland City improves to 6-5-1 overall and 2-3-1 in league play.

Midway's offense struggled to get anything going against the stout Oakland City offense as they carded just three shots with all three coming on goal. The Mighty Oaks, meanwhile, recorded 17 shots with nine coming on frame.

The Mighty Oaks struck first scoring one in the first frame in the 18th minute as they grabbed the early 1-0 lead. They would then add three more in the second half with all three coming from Claudie Melgar as they cruised to the 4-0 victory.

Madeline Hargrove (Goodlettsville, Tenn.) accounted for two of Midway's shots in the loss, while the other was taken by Mariana Casey (Georgetown, Ky.).

Yasmeen Shalash (Nicholasville, Ky.) got the start for the Eagles and played all 90 minutes in goal. The true freshman stopped five of the nine shots she faced.

Midway now has he next week off before hosting Carlow (Pa.) on Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. ET to begin a three-match homestand.
