Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MIDWAY, Ky. -- Following a straight sets sweep of IU Southeast (Ind.) earlier in the week, the Midway women's volleyball team had a busy weekend with a road trip to IU East (Ind.) before a subsequent non-conference home match with Cincinnati-Clermont (Ohio).

In their first matchup on Friday (Oct. 1), the Eagles had a River States Conference showdown with the lone undefeated team in the league. The Red Wolves got the best of the Eagles and came away with the 3-0 victory (25-20, 26-24, 25-21).

After suffering just their second loss of the season less than 24 hours before, Midway bounced back with an impressive performance in a 3-0 victory (25-14, 25-17, 25-12) over the Cougars to seal their 10th win of the season.

Following the two matches, Jonea Rima's club moves to 10-2 overall, while they're currently 4-2 in league play. They now trail IU Kokomo (Ind.) by a game and a half in the RSC West Division.

IU East 3, Midway 0

The opening set was a back-and-forth battle before IU East closed the set on a 6-2 run to take the early 1-0 lead following a 25-20 win in the opening set. It looked as though the home team was going to run away with the second stanza after holding a comfortable six-point lead.

Trailing 23-20, Kaylee Criswell (Rockdale, Texas) put down a kill on an overpass and kickstarted a 4-0 run as Midway held set point with a 24-23 lead.

A service error, however, tied the set at 24 and led to a 3-0 run by the Red Wolves as they won the set 26-24 and took a commanding 2-0 lead overall. The third set was similar to the first as IU East made the plays down the stretch to claim the sweep behind the 25-21 win.

Aubry Koester (Apple Valley, Calif.) led the offensive attack with 14 kills in 29 swings to finish with a .345 hitting clip. Kaylee Criswell, meanwhile, carded eight kills and a .429 attacking clip.

Valerie Ramos (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Evelyn Milburn (Versailles, Ky.) split time running the offense with 16 and 14 assists, respectively. Mariana Rodriguez (Houston, Texas) led the defensive effort with eight digs, while Anju Sugiya (Tokyo, Japan) carded seven in the loss.

Midway 3, Cincinnati-Clermont 0

Following the loss on Friday, Midway's offense bounced back and posted one of their better performances of the season. The Eagles carded 38 kills committing just 10 errors in 83 swings to finish with a .337 hitting percentage.

The Eagles sprinted to big leads early in both the first and second sets. The first set saw Midway hold a 9-1 and cruise to the 25-17 win, while they soared to a 13-6 edge in the second and took a commanding 2-0 lead in the match after claiming the 25-17 win in the second set.

The third set was similar to the first two, but this time Midway doubled up the visitors and held a 16-8 lead. Back-to-back kills from Kaylee Criswell and Aubry Koester pushed the lead to 13 before Midway sealed the 3-0 victory with the 25-12 win in the final frame.

Offensively, it was Koester who led the way with 10 kills as the freshman committed just one error in her 17 attempts to finish with a .529 hitting clip. Midway also had eight different players record at lead two kills in the win.

Valerie Ramos tied her season-high with 18 assists, while Wilani Velazquez (Carolina, Puerto Rico) also saw time running the offense as she finished with 11 assists. Mariana Rodriguez led the defensive effort with nine digs, while Anju Sugiya chipped in seven.

UP NEXT: Midway is scheduled to return to action this weekend when they host Rio Grande (Ohio) on Friday (Oct. 8) at 7 p.m. ET before hosting West Virginia Tech on Saturday (Oct. 9) at noon ET.
