Box Score NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- Following an exhibition loss at Morehead State (Ky.) on Sunday, the Midway women's basketball team returned to River States Conference play on Tuesday (Nov. 23) with a road trip to New Albany, Ind. to battle IU Southeast (Ind.).
The Eagles held a 44-34 lead at intermission, but IU Southeast battled back and tied the game at 62 entering the fourth quarter. Midway got back on track in the fourth and outscored the home team 22-13 to claim a tough 84-75 victory.
With the win, Chris Minner's squad improves to 5-3 overall and more importantly they improve to 2-0 in league play, while IU Southeast falls to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in RSC play with the loss.
The start was less than ideal for the Blue and Gold as the Grenadiers sprinted to an early 13-2 lead just four minutes in. IU Southeast would then cool off as they finished the quarter going 1-of-8 from the floor with five turnovers.
Midway answered and closed the quarter on a 17-4 run as they took a 19-17 lead into the second stanza. The second quarter saw the Eagles put together runs of 10-0 and 9-0 as they would lead by as many as 13.
Kassidy Daugherty (Owensboro, Ky.) helped spark the Eagles in the second quarter hitting a pair of triples off the bench as Midway built their largest lead of the contest at 44-31. The Grenadiers, however, hit a trey in the final minute to cut the deficit to 44-34 at intermission.
IU Southeast would carry that momentum into the third period where they would shoot 64.3 percent from the floor and outscored the visitors 28-18. The Grenadiers led by as many as five with 2:10 left in the period, but Midway closed the quarter on a quick 5-0 run to tie it up at 62.
Dezeree White (Houston, Texas) and Jalyn Jackson (Cold Spring, Ky.) opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back layups to give the Eagles a lead they wouldn't relinquish. The two teams then traded baskets before Allyson Callahan (Morehead, Ky.) began to heat up.
The fifth-year senior scored seven straight points for the Blue and Gold as Midway closed the game on a 9-2 run en route to sealing the 84-75 victory.
Midway had five players reach double figures led by Keia McCullogh who turned in her best performance of the season. The junior from Nashville, Tenn. played 27 minutes off the bench and finished with 16 points and eight rebounds as she hit 7-of-11 from the floor.
Jalyn Jackson added 16 points going 6-of-8 from the charity stripe, while Dezeree White notched a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Allyson Callahan added 12 points and Nahia Urturi-Ortiz (Vitoria, Spain) chipped in 10 points in 12 minutes off the bench.

The Eagles will have the next couple of days off before traveling to Kingsport, Tenn. for the NAIA Basketball Showcase – 'The Show' on Saturday and Sunday. The Eagles open play in the tournament on Saturday (Nov. 27) against No. 10 Marian (Ind.) at 6 p.m. ET.
