Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. -- After suffering just their third loss of the season on Saturday, the Midway women's volleyball team returned to their winning ways on Tuesday night (Nov. 3) when they hosted Boyce (Ky.) for Senior Night in Marshall Gymnasium.
After struggling in their loss to the Cougars over the weekend, the Midway offense got back on track by posting one of their best performances of the season en route to claiming the 3-0 sweep (25-15, 25-5, 25-14).
With the win, Jonea Rima's club reaches the 20-win plateau for the first time in recent memory as they improve to 20-3 overall. The Eagles finish the home portion of their schedule sporting an 11-1 mark overall as they'll play the final two games of the season on the road.
Prior to opening serve, Midway honored three seniors for Senior Night including: Mariana Rodriguez (Houston, Texas), Krissy Cummins (Frankfort, Ky.) and Alysha Tullar (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.).
All three seniors played a key role in leading the Eagles on Tuesday night. Rodriguez and Cummins tied the team-high with six digs apiece, while Tullar led the offensive attack with 12 kills and a .417 hitting clip. She also carded four service aces and four digs in the win.
After trailing 11-10 in the opening stanza, the Eagles put the set away following an 11-1 run to take a 21-12 lead. The Blue and Gold then closed the set on a 4-1 run to claim the 25-15 win.
The second set saw the home team dominate from the opening point. Raegan Stevens (Ashland, Ky.) served three aces as Midway took an 11-1 lead, while Alysha Tullar served a pair of aces as part of an 8-0 run to take a commanding 2-0 lead following the 25-5 victory.
The third frame was back-and-forth until the home team closed the set strong. Regann Jessee (Columbus, Ind.) put down back-to-back kills before Tullar put down her final two kills to kickstart a 10-1 run to seal the sweep with the 25-14 win in the third set.
Jessee finished the night going a perfect 5-for-5 from the middle in the third set, while Meghan Adams (Hopkinsville, Ky.) added four kills of her own. Brooke Trompler (Campton, Ky.) and Emily Slaughter (Gallatin, Tenn.), meanwhile, carded three kills each.
Evelyn Milburn (Versailles, Ky.) and Valerie Ramos (San Juan, Puerto Rico) each posted 11 assists as they each added three and six digs, respectively. Mariana Rodriguez added seven assists to go with her six digs.
The Eagles are scheduled to return to action on Friday when they travel to Owensboro, Ky. for a matchup with Brescia (Ky.). First serve is set for 8 p.m. ET.
