Women's Volleyball finishes regular season with road wins at Brescia & Oakland City

MIDWAY, Ky. -- After wrapping up the home portion of their schedule on Tuesday, the Midway women's volleyball team wrapped up a historical regular season with road trips to Brescia (Ky.) and Oakland City (Ind.) in a pair of River States Conference matchups.

In the road win at Brescia, the Eagles dropped the first set, but they battled back and won the next three sets to secure the 3-1 win (22-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-11) for their 21st victory of the season.

Then, less than 24 hours later, in the road trip to Oakland City, the Blue and Gold avenged their September 24 loss to the Mighty Oaks by coming away with the 3-0 sweep (25-16, 25-12, 25-16) to wrap up the regular season.

With the two wins, Jonea Rima's club wraps up their most successful season in recent memory improving to 22-3 overall and 14-3 in River States Conference play. The Eagles now will turn their attention to the RSC Tournament as the No. 2 seed from the RSC West Division.

Midway 3, Brescia 1

Midway carded a .281 hitting percentage in the opening set, but seven service errors allowed the Bearcats to claim a 25-22 win in the first set. The Midway offense turned it up a notch over the final three sets and recorded a .441 hitting clip en route to the 3-1 victory.

Despite a slow start, the Eagles posted their best offensive performance of the season recording 58 kills in their 118 swings as they committed just 11 miscues to finish with a .398 hitting clip – their highest of the season.

Aubry Koester (Apple Valley, Calif.) led the offensive effort with 18 kills as she committed just one error in her 36 attempts to card a .472 hitting clip. Brooke Trompler (Campton, Ky.) added 12 kills and a .455 hitting clip to go with her 13 digs, while Meghan Adams (Hopkinsville, Ky.) finished with a season-high 12 kills and a .588 attacking percentage.

Valerie Ramos (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Evelyn Milburn (Versailles, Ky.) combined for 50 of Midway's 54 assists in the victory. Ramos had 34 assists and seven digs, while Milburn added 16 assists. Mariana Rodriguez (Houston, Texas), meanwhile, finished with 26 digs in the win.

Midway 3, Oakland City 0

Following their best offensive performance of the season against Brescia, the Eagles recorded yet another strong offensive outing against Oakland City. In their first meeting, Midway finished with just 44 kills and a .177 hitting clip in a four-set loss in Marshall Gymnasium.

The performance on Saturday was a complete 180 from their first meeting. This time around the Eagles posted 42 kills in 88 swings for a .330 hitting percentage. Oakland City, meanwhile, recorded just 22 kills in 87 attempts for a .046 attacking clip.

Two players reached double figure kills for the Blue and Gold led by Aubry Koester with 12 kills as she hit .429 for the match. The freshman also recorded a season-high seven digs in the win. Brooke Trompler added 11 kills and six digs, Alysha Tullar (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) and Meghan Adams chipped in seven and six kills, respectively, in the win.

Valerie Ramos recorded 30 assists and six digs, while Mariana Rodriguez led the defensive effort with a match-high 13 digs.
