PIPPA PASSES, Ky. -- After splitting a pair of games at 'The Show' in Kingsport, Tenn., the Midway women's basketball team jumped back into River States Conference play on Tuesday (Nov. 30) with a road trip to Pippa Passes, Ky. to battle Alice Lloyd (Ky.).

Midway got off to a quick start as they took a 56-42 lead at intermission before pushing it to as many as 16 early in the third period. Alice Lloyd cut the deficit to as little as one in the final stanza, but the visitors held on for the 100-94 victory.

With the win, Chris Minner's squad improves to 7-4 overall, while they remain perfect in league play moving to 3-0. The win was extra special for the second-year head coach as it was the 400th victory of his career. Minner has won 20 games thus far at Midway to bring his career total to 400 victories.

The Eagles turned Alice Lloyd over six times in the opening quarter, while shooting 10-of-18 as they took a 28-22 lead into the second stanza. The lead soon ballooned to 15 less than three minutes into the second following an 11-0 run.

Jill Goldey (Pineville, Ky.) – who scored a team-high 16 points in the first half – helped kickstart the rally with eight points including a pair of triples, while Allyson Callahan (Morehead, Ky.) swished home a trey of her own in the rally as Midway took a 56-42 lead at halftime.

The Blue and Gold led by as many as 16 early in the third period, but Alice Lloyd slowly chipped away at the deficit and cut it to as little as six before the visitors took a 77-68 lead into the fourth and final stanza.

Alice Lloyd came out firing to open the fourth as they cut the deficit to one with 7:14 remaining after opening the quarter on a 10-2 run. A crucial three-point play by Goldey helped get Midway back on track as they pushed their lead back to 10 following an 8-0 run.

The Blue and Gold would be held without a field goal over the final 3:20 as Alice Lloyd once again cut the deficit to two with 46 seconds remaining. That would be as close at the home team got as Dezeree White (Houston, Texas) sealed the 100-94 win after going 4-for-4 from the charity stripe in the final minute.

White led the way for Midway with a game-high 27 points, while she also grabbed 13 rebounds and stagged four steals. The junior went 12-of-16 from the free throw line where Midway hit 30-of-41 for the game.

Jill Goldey also reached double figures with 19 points and six rebounds, while Allyson Callahan and Jalyn Jackson (Cold Spring, Ky.) chipped in 17 and 14 points, respectively.

Midway is now scheduled to return to action on Saturday (Dec. 4) when they travel to IU Kokomo (Ind.). Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
