Eagles roll Bearcats for fifth straight victory

Box Score

MIDWAY, Ky. -- Following their biggest win of the season in their last outing on Friday (Dec. 10), the Midway women's basketball team returned to action on Tuesday (Dec. 14) looking to avoid a letdown when they hosted Brescia (Ky.) in a River States Conference West Division matchup.

The Eagles did much more than avoid a letdown as they scored the first 16 points of the contest and never looked back. Midway built a 36-6 lead after opening period and led by as many as 51 as they cruised to the 102-55 victory.

With the win, Chris Minner's squad runs their win streak to five as they improve to 10-4 overall and stay perfect in league play at 5-0. The Bearcats, meanwhile, drop to 2-10 overall and 1-4 in River States Conference play following the loss.

The Eagles sprinted to a 16-0 lead to open the game as it was their defense that allowed them to get easy baskets in transition. Dezeree White (Houston, Texas) hit back-to-back layups and Kindall Talley (Frankfort, Ky.) scored seven early points to help spark the quick start.

The visitors finally found the scoring column with 4:09 remaining in the first before scoring again at the 3:35 mark to make it 18-4. The Eagles then proceeded to close the quarter on an 18-2 run to take a 36-6 lead into the second stanza.

Mi'lan Miller (Houston, Texas) scored 12 points in the opening frame and Kassidy Daugherty (Owensboro, Ky.) hit a pair of triples to help spark the rally to end the quarter. Midway shot 63.2 percent in the opening quarter, while holding the Bearcats to 21.4 percent.

Brescia scored the first three points in the second quarter but wouldn't score again until the 1:49 mark as they were held scoreless for nearly eight minutes. Midway went on a 21-0 run during that stretch as they led 57-9 before taking a 61-18 edge into the locker room.

The Eagles built their largest lead of the contest early in the third at 74-23 following a quick 9-1 run which was capped when Jalyn Jackson (Cold Spring, Ky.) went coast-to-coast for a layup.

The contest was more evenly matched in the second half where Brescia shot 57.1 percent in the third quarter and 53.8 percent in the fourth. Midway still managed to outscore the visitors 41-37 in the final 20 minutes to soar to the 102-55 victory.

Four players reached double figures for the Eagles led by Mi'lan Miller who finished with 14 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Kindall Talley and Dezeree White added 12 and 11 points, respectively, while Keia McCullogh (Nashville, Tenn.) chipped in 10 points.

Midway finished the contest shooting 51.4 percent, while they forced the Bearcats into 31 turnovers which led to a 35-7 advantage in points off turnovers. The Eagles also got 60 points from their bench compared to just 29 for the visitors.

The Eagles are now scheduled to play their final game before the Christmas holiday on Saturday (Dec. 18) when they host St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) at 3 p.m. ET in Marshall Gymnasium.
