Box Score

MIDWAY, Ky. -- Following a big conference victory over Brescia (Ky.) earlier in the week, the Midway women's basketball team extended their win streak to six on Saturday (Dec. 18) with yet another easy victory over St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) inside Marshall Gymnasium.

Just like their previous two outings, the Eagles got off to a hot start and sprinted to a 27-3 lead before taking a 27-9 lead after the first quarter. They then took a 52-16 lead into the locker room before coasting to an easy 83-48 victory.

With the win, Chris Minner's squad extends their win streak to six as they improve to 11-4 overall and stay perfect in River States Conference play at 6-0. The Pomeroys, meanwhile, drop to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in league play with the loss.

Not only did Midway coast to the big win, but Dezeree White surpassed a career milestone in the first quarter. The junior transfer entered the game needing just seven points to reach 1,000 points for her career.

It was early in the first quarter when White got a breakaway layup to score her eighth point and surpass 1,000 points for her career. The transfer from Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) scored 746 points with the Saints and has scored 255 points in her 15 games at Midway thus far.

White only played 17 minutes on the afternoon, but she certainly left her mark on the win as she finished with eight points, eight steals and four assists.

It was Midway's defense that helped them get off to a hot start as they forced the Pomeroys into eight turnovers in the opening quarter. With the home team holding a slim 5-3 lead they went on a big run that essentially put the game out of reach.

Jill Goldey (Pineville, Ky.) scored five quick points and White scored six, while Allyson Callahan (Morehead, Ky.) hit back-to-back triples before Jalyn Jackson (Cold Spring, Ky.) capped a 22-0 run with five straight points as they extended their lead to 27-3 with 3:09 left in the first.

The Eagles opened the second quarter on a 17-0 run as the lead ballooned to 44-9 with 3:31 left before halftime. Keia McCullogh (Nashville, Tenn.) hit a jumper and Kindall Talley (Frankfort, Ky.) added a triple, while Goldey and Jackson scored six points each to help fuel the rally.

The Eagles would take a 52-16 lead into the locker room and would lead by as many as 39 over the final 20 minutes as they would cruise to the 83-48 victory.

Four players reached double figures for the Eagles led by Jalyn Jackson and Jill Goldey who each finished with 16 points. Jackson hit 6-of-13 from the floor, while Goldey hit 6-of-8. Allyson Callahan and Kindall Talley, meanwhile, each carded 10 points in the victory.

The Eagles will now have the next few days off to enjoy the Christmas holiday before returning to campus to start preparing for the second half of the season which gets underway on Dec. 30 when they host Huntington (Ind.) at 3 p.m. ET inside Marshall Gymnasium.
