Box Score

MIDWAY, Ky. -- The Midway women's soccer team wrapped up a five-game homestand to open the season on Saturday when they hosted IU East (Ind.) at the Midway Soccer Field.

It was a tough outing for the Blue and Gold as they suffered their second 4-0 loss within two days of one another. The Red Wolves scored one in the first half before scoring three more in the second en route to the 4-0 victory.

Following the loss, Midway falls to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in River States Conference play, while IU East improves to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in league play.

IU East had a pair of shots that sailed high in the opening minutes, but they wouldn't miss on their third shot. Just four minutes and 23 seconds into the contest, Kimberly Trapp found the back of the net giving her squad the early 1-0 lead.

After allowing the early goal, Midway's defense stepped up over the final 40 plus minutes and held the visitors scoreless to keep the deficit at one goal. The Red Wolves held an 11-3 advantage in shots at intermission.

It wasn't long before the Red Wolves added to their lead scoring in the 50th minute to push the lead to 2-0. Trapp then completed the hat trick scoring in the 69th minute and then again in the 83rd minute as IU East came away with the 4-0 victory.

The Eagles finished the contest with five shots overall and three shots on frame. Marissa Sauer (Henderson, Ky.), Emily James (Shelbyville, Ky.), and Morgan Harper (Louisville, Ky.) accounted for the three shots on goal by the home squad.

Yasmeen Shalash (Nicholasville, Ky.) was dealt the loss for the Eagles as she stopped eight of the 12 shots she faced. Madison Land (Chattanooga, Tenn.) didn't face a shot in her 1:37 in goal.

Sherrill Smith's squad is scheduled to return to the pitch on Thursday (Sept. 23) when they travel to Asbury (Ky.). Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET in Wilmore.
