Eagles Earn 0-0 Draw With Red Wolves

CENTERVILLE, Ind. – The Midway University women's soccer team wrapped up its three-game River States Conference road trip on Thursday when it took on Indiana University East. Thanks to a solid eight-save performance by Caylee Thompson (Midway, Ky.) the Eagles and Red Wolves settled for a 0-0 tie.

With the tie, Midway stands at a 3-4-4 record overall and 1-2-3 in the RSC while IU East has earned a 3-4-7 record overall and a conference mark of 2-1-3.

In the opening half, neither team was able to find the back of the net. The host Red Wolves outshot Midway in the first 45 minutes of action but Thompson recorded five saves to keep the game scoreless. In the second stanza, while IU East continued to apply offensive pressure, Thompson and the Eagle defense remained strong, and the game ended in a 0-0 tie.

IU-East outshot the Eagles 17-4 for the match, while Midway was led offensively by Jameela Shalash (Nicholasville, Ky.) and Cameron Banfield (Cincinnati, Ohio) who each recorded a shot on goal. In between the pipes, Thompson recorded eight saves for the contest while picking up her second shutout of the season.

Midway women's soccer returns home on Saturday when it hosts Oakland City University (Ind.) in an RSC showdown.  Opening kickoff against the Mighty Oaks is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Midway Soccer Field.
