Box Score

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. -- After sweeping Brescia (Ky.) on Tuesday night, the Midway women's volleyball team was back in action on Friday when they traveled to the 'Hoosier State' to take on Oakland City (Ind.) in a River States Conference matchup.

The Eagles – who swept the Mighty Oaks in their league opener on Sept. 20 – completed the season sweep of Oakland City with a 3-0 victory (25-20, 25-22, 25-14) in the Johnson Center on Friday night.

With the win, the Eagles have now won their last four and seven of their last eight as they improved to 12-2 overall and 7-2 in RSC action. The Mighty Oaks, meanwhile, slipped to 3-12 overall and 3-8 in RSC play with the loss.

It was a solid night for the Midway offense as they carded a .207 hitting clip, while holding the home squad to a .062 attacking effort with 15 total blocks.

The opening set saw the home team hold a 16-14 edge, but the lead was short lived after Midway went on a 10-1 run en route to claiming the opening frame with a 25-20 win.

The second set saw a back-and-forth battle before Aubry Koester (Apple Valley, Calif.) put down back-to-back kills to help clinch the 25-22 win and a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Eagles trailed 8-3 and 11-9 in the final frame, but they didn't trail again after holding a 13-12 advantage. Midway responded with a 4-0 run, while they closed the set on a 7-0 run to clinch the sweep with the 25-14 third set victory.

Midway's offensive attack was led by Koester who finished with a match-high 17 kills. The sophomore committed just two miscues in her 34 swings to post a .441 hitting clip.

Anju Sugiya (Tokyo, Japan) and Brooke Trompler (Campton, Ky.) each notched nine kills, while recording 10 and nine digs, respectively. Valerie Ramos (San Juan, Puerto Rico) finished with nine assists and 12 digs, while Mariana Rodriguez (Houston, Texas) collected a match-high 22 digs.

Pilar Daugherty (Las Cruces, N.M.) recorded yet another double-double with 27 assists and 12 digs in a winning effort.

The Eagles will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Richmond, Ind. on Saturday (Oct. 15) to battle IU East (Ind.). First serve is set for 2 p.m. ET.
