Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. – The Midway University women's soccer team returned to the friendly confines of the Midway Soccer Field on Saturday when they took on Oakland City University (Ind.) in a River States Conference match. Despite a team-leading eighth goal of the season from Maggie Sauer (Henderson, Ky.), the Mighty Oaks picked up a 3-1 win over the Eagles.
With the loss, Midway falls to 3-5-4 record overall and 1-3-3 in the RSC while Oakland City improves to an 8-3-1 record overall and a conference mark of 5-2-0.
Midway took an early lead when Sauer scored with the assist coming from Holly Johnstone (Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia). Oakland City found a quick equalizer in the 18th minute and the two teams entered halftime tied at one.
In the second stanza, Oakland City picked up a lead they would not relinquish when they scored in the 64th minute. The Mighty Oaks closed out the scoring with an insurance tally in the 65th minute and claimed the 3-1 victory.
For the game, Oakland City outshot Midway 22-3. In goal, Caylee Thompson (Midway, Ky.) notched 10 saves in the contest.
Midway women's soccer continues its homestand on Thursday, October 20 when it hosts Brescia University (Ky.) in a RSC showdown. Opening kickoff against the Bearcats is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Midway Soccer Field.
