WILMORE, Ky. -- After suffering a tough 3-1 loss to IU East (Ind.) on Tuesday, the Midway women's volleyball team returned to the hardwood on Thursday (Oct. 6) when they traveled to nearby Wilmore, Ky. to battle Asbury (Ky.) inside the Luce Center.

As a team, Midway recorded a .242 hitting clip while holding the home team to a .074 attaching percentage en route to claiming the 3-0 sweep (25-18, 25-18, 28-26).

With the win, Jonea Rima's club improves to 9-2 overall, while Asbury slips to 4-11 on the year.

The opening set was nip-and-tuck until Midway broke a 15-15 tie with a 4-0 run. A service error gave Midway the lead before Aubry Koester (Apple Valley, Calif.) tacked on three straight kills sparking a 10-3 run as they won the opening set 25-18.

The Eagles dominated the second stanza from the opening serve. They sprinted to a 10-3 lead before extending the lead to 18-7 as they took a 2-0 lead in the match with the 25-18 second set victory.

Midway seemed to be in good shape in the third set where they held a 22-17 advantage, but Asbury responded and tied the set at 22. Asbury then held set point at 26-25, but a 3-0 run capped off by a service ace by Anju Sugiya (Tokyo, Japan) clinched the sweep with the 28-26 win.

Valerie Ramos (San Juan, Puerto Rico) dished out 10 assists to go with her two digs, while Mariana Rodriguez (Houston, Texas) led the defensive effort with a match-high 14 digs.
