Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Midway University women's soccer team closed out its two-game River States Conference series in Pittsburgh when it played Carlow (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon. Thanks to a Maggie Sauer (Henderson, Ky.) unassisted goal in the 49th minute, the Eagles picked up a 1-1 draw.
With the tie, Midway stands at a 3-4-3 record overall and 1-2-2 in the RSC while Carlow has earned a 4-5-1 record overall and a conference mark of 0-3-1.
The game was a back-and-forth affair in the opening half with both teams having multiple opportunities at goal. In the 38th minute, Carlow was able to break the deadlock when they scored following a free kick.
In the 49th minute, Midway found an equalizer when Sauer scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season to make the score 1-1. Neither team could find the back of the net in the remaining 41 minutes and the two teams split the points.
Carlow outshot the Eagles 19-12 for the match, but Midway was led by Sauer's game-tying goal. In the nets, Caylee Thompson (Midway, Ky.) recorded seven saves for the contest.
Midway women's soccer will see its three-game road trip end on Thursday, October 13 when it plays IU East (Ind.). Opening kickoff against the Pioneers is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Richmond, Indiana.
