Box Score CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio -- The Midway women's volleyball team wrapped up their three-match week on Saturday (Oct. 9) with a River States Conference matchup against Ohio Christian in Circleville, Ohio.
The Eagles dominated every facet of the match as they cruised to the 3-0 victory (25-8, 25-20, 25-12) en route to picking up their 10th win of the season improving to 10-2 overall and 5-2 in league play.
Midway nearly doubled up the Trailblazers offensively holding a dominant 42-23 edge in kills and an 8-0 advantage in service aces. The Eagles recorded a .273 hitting clip and held Ohio Christian (5-15, 3-4 RSC) to a .037 attacking percentage.
Two kills each from the duo of Hannah Brink (Greenville, Mich.) and Anju Sugiya (Tokyo, Japan) sparked the Eagles in the opening set. Holding a 9-4 lead, Midway won 16 of the final 20 points to win the first set handily by a score of 25-8.
The second stanza was a bit closer, but the visitors held a comfortable lead throughout as they took a dominant 2-0 lead after winning the set 25-20.
The third set saw the Eagles hold a slim 9-7 lead, but they went on an 11-3 rally to build a 10-point lead as they clinched the sweep with a comfortable 25-12 win in the third stanza.
Aubry Koester (Apple Valley, Calif.) led the offensive attack with 13 kills and a .324 hitting percentage, while Anju Sugiya recorded a solid outing with 11 kills, a .333 attacking clip, and a seven-dig performance on the defensive end. Hannah Brink added seven kills and hit .500 in the win.
Pilar Daugherty (Las Cruces, N.M.) noted a double-double with 17 assists and 10 digs, while Valerie Ramos (San Juan, Puerto Rico) finished with 14 assists and five digs. Mariana Rodriguez (Houston, Texas) led the defensive effort with a season-high 24 digs.
Jonea Rima's club is set to return to Marshall Gymnasium on Tuesday (Oct. 11) when they host Brescia (Ky.) at 7 p.m. ET.
