Box Score OWENSBORO, Ky. -- Following a tough loss earlier in the week against Oakland City (Ind.), the Midway women's basketball team hit the road on Saturday (Nov. 19) for a River States Conference contest against Brescia (Ky.) inside the Moore Center.
The Eagles jumped out to a 16-9 lead after one quarter and would take a 37-19 lead into the locker room as they would cruise to the 75-52 victory and put an end to their three-game losing streak.
With the win, the Eagles improve to 2-4 overall while they pick up their first league victory improving to 1-1 in RSC play. Brescia, meanwhile, continues to search for their first victory as they fall to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in conference play following the loss.
The opening quarter was a bit of a struggle for both teams, but it was Midway that forced the Bearcats into eight turnovers. Aleigha Mucker (Hardinsburg, Ky.), meanwhile, hit a pair of long balls in the opening 10 minutes as Midway took a 16-9 lead into the second period.
Keia McCullogh (Nashville, Tenn.) scored the first five points for the Eagles early in the second frame to help kickstart an 11-2 run to take a 27-11 advantage. A couple of minutes later, Midway extended their lead to 22 on the heels of a 10-0 run.
Dezeree White (Houston, Texas) and Mucker hit back-to-back threes, while Mi'lan Miller (Houston, Texas) capped the run with a jump shot as the visitors took a 37-19 lead at intermission.
The third period was an offensive struggle for both squads, but they picked it up in the final frame where they combined to score 55 points. The final stanza saw the Eagles take their largest lead of the contest at 30 as they left Owensboro with a 75-52 victory.
Mi'lan Miller led the way for the Eagles with 12 points, while Aleigha Mucker hit 4-of-8 from the floor and finished with 11 points. Keia McCullogh, meanwhile, had a solid outing with nine points, eight rebounds, five steals, and three blocks.
As a team, Midway forced the Bearcats into 26 turnovers which led to a 29-9 edge in points off turnovers.
Midway is set to return to action on Wednesday (Nov. 23) when they travel to nearby Richmond, Ky. to battle Eastern Kentucky University in an exhibition. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. ET inside Baptist Health Arena.
