Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. -- The Midway women's volleyball team wrapped up the home portion of their schedule on Tuesday night when they hosted Alice Lloyd (Ky.) in a River States Conference matchup inside Marshall Gymnasium.
In a 'Battle of the Eagles', Midway came out on top as they posted a season-best .456 hitting clip en route to the 3-0 sweep (25-9, 25-12, 25-15).
With the win, Jonea Rima's team improves to 17-4 overall and 12-4 in RSC play, while Alice Lloyd slips to 7-17 overall and 1-14 in league play following the loss.
Midway finished the night with 49 kills, while they committed a season-low eight attacking errors in their 90 swings. They held the visitors to just 16 kills and a .080 hitting mark. The home team also served 11 aces in the win which ties for their second most on the season.
Alice Lloyd jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first frame, but Midway responded with a 12-2 run fueled by four kills from Hannah Brink (Greenville, Mich.). Holding a 14-5 lead, Midway went on a 6-0 run as they cruised to a 25-9 win in the opening set.
The second stanza saw Midway post a .600 attacking percentage with 17 kills and just two miscues in their 25 attempts. The Eagles held a slim 7-6 lead but pulled away on the heels of a 11-2 run. Brink later served a pair of aces as Midway took a 2-0 lead with the 25-12 win.
With the third set tied at three, Midway built a nine-point lead following a 10-1 rally. They later closed the frame on a quick 4-0 run as they clinched the sweep with the 25-15 win.
Emily Slaughter (Gallatin, Tenn.) led the offensive attack for the Eagles with a career-high 12 kills and a .611 hitting mark. Hannah Brink added nine kills and a match-high five service aces, while Brooke Trompler (Campton, Ky.) chipped in nine kills and seven digs in the win.
Valerie Ramos (San Juan, Puerto Rico) dished out a match-best 18 assists in the win and Pilar Daugherty (Las Cruces, N.M.) recorded 16 assists and eight digs, while Mariana Rodriguez (Houston, Texas) led the defensive effort with nine digs.
Midway is set to return to action this weekend when they travel to Indiana for a pair of matches to wrap up the regular season. The first of those two matches is scheduled for Friday, November 4, when they take on St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) at 7 p.m. ET.
