Box Score KOKOMO, Ind. -- On Saturday afternoon, the Midway women's volleyball team concluded its regular season with a River States Conference West Division match against IU Kokomo (Ind.).
On a day that saw the match delayed two hours due to thunderstorms in the area causing a power outage along with a change in venue, the Eagles lost to the Cougars 3-0 (25-7, 25-16, 25-17).
With the loss, Midway falls to 17-6 overall and 12-6 in RSC play while IU Kokomo improves to 26-6 overall and 15-2 in the league.
When the match eventually got underway, the Cougars jumped out to an early 10-3 lead, forcing Midway to call timeout. IU Kokomo continued to apply the pressure and ended the first set on a 10-1 run to win 25-7.
In the second set, Midway claimed an early lead and trailed only 4-3 when the Cougars embarked on a 6-0 run and forced another early timeout. IU Kokomo continued on with a very efficient attacking game despite the pause and claimed a 2-0 lead with a 25-16 victory.
In the third, the Eagles were able to keep the game close, at one point trailing just 16-14. Unfortunately, the Cougars closed out the afternoon on a 9-3 run to clinch the match 3-0. For the day, IU Kokomo outhit Midway .372-.022 and only committed seven hitting errors compared to the Eagles 22.
Offensively, the Eagles were led by Brooke Trompler (Campton, Ky.), Pilar Daugherty (Las Cruces, N.M.) and Aubry Koester (Apple Valley, Calif.) who each recorded six kills while Daugherty also added 14 assists. On the defensive side of the ball, Trompler notched eight digs to lead Midway while Mariana Rodriguez (Houston, Texas) picked up seven for the afternoon.
Midway women's volleyball will now turn its attention to the upcoming RSC Tournament. The championship, hosted by Point Park (Pa.), will be held November 11-12 in Pittsburgh.
