Eagles run win streak to three with convincing win over IU East

MIDWAY, Ky. -- After a week away from competition, the Midway women's basketball team returned to the court on Saturday (Dec. 10) when they hosted IU East (Ind.) in a River States Conference contest inside Marshall Gymnasium.

Thanks to a 26-point performance from Dezeree White (Houston, Texas) and a 21-point performance from Aleigha Mucker (Hardinsburg, Ky.), the Eagles picked up a 76-63 victory over the visiting Red Wolves.

With the win, Midway runs their win streak to three improving to 5-5 overall and 4-1 in conference play, while the Red Wolves fall to 3-8 overall and 3-2 in RSC play.

The home team sprinted to an 8-0 lead to open the contest as they held the Red Wolves scoreless for the opening four minutes of the contest. Midway would lead by as many as nine in the opening frame before taking a 23-16 lead into the second quarter.

White started to take over in the second where she scored 10 points including five straight at one point as Midway stretched their lead to 13 at 39-26. IU East got within eight, but Mucker drained a pair of triples in the final minute giving her team a 47-35 lead at intermission.

Midway shot 54.1 percent from the field in the first half and an even 50 percent from three-point land. White and Mucker scored 18 and 12 points, respectively in the opening half.

IU East made a bit of a run to open the third, but White and Mucker hit back-to-back triples to push the lead back to 14. Midway led by as many as 20 in the quarter as they would take a comfortable 63-47 advantage into the final quarter.

Mucker hit her seventh triple of the game early in the fourth to help kickstart a 10-0 run that put the game away for good. Sereniti Webb (Covington, Ky.) capped the run with back-to-back layups as the Eagles would cruise to the 76-63 victory.

Dezeree White and Aleigha Mucker each turned in their best performance of the season to help lead the way. White hit 4-of-6 from three and finished with 26 points, nine rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Mucker scored a career-high 21 points and hit 7-of-12 from three.

Semaj Adams (New Orleans, La.) chipped in 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting, while Webb recorded eight points and seven rebounds. Mi'lan Miller (Houston, Texas) dished out six dimes in the win.

As a team, the Eagles hit 11-of-24 from three for 45.8 percent. They also forced the Red Wolves into 25 turnovers which led to a 33-14 edge in points off turnovers.

The Eagles return to the court on Wednesday, December 14 when they will host Campbellsville University-Harrodsburg in a non-conference game. Opening tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. from Marshall Gymnasium.
