Box Score

ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. -- After opening their week with a tough win over IU Kokomo (Ind.), the Midway women's basketball team hit the road on Saturday (Dec. 3) when they traveled to St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) for a River States Conference matchup.

The Eagles – who trailed by as many as 11 in the first quarter – would take an eight-point lead into the locker room before outscoring the home team 45-20 in the second half en route to the 77-44 victory.

With the win, Chris Minner's squad moves to 4-5 overall and 3-1 in RSC play, while the Pomeroys fall to 6-2 overall and 1-2 in league play following the loss.

The Pomeroys got off to a strong start as they jumped to an 11-0 lead and held Midway without a field goal for the opening seven minutes of the contest. Amoni White (St. Louis, Mo.) got the Eagles on the board with a pair of free throws at the 4:27 mark.

In fact, it was White that provided a spark off the bench when her team needed it. The junior guard scored eight points in the opening 10 minutes and six straight at one point as the Eagles closed the quarter on a 15-2 run to take a 15-13 lead into the second frame.

The second stanza was a bit of a back-and-forth battle, but the Eagles managed to outscore the Pomeroys 17-11 as they would take a 32-24 lead at intermission.

Amoni White opened the third period with a triple as Midway pushed their lead to 16 with 6:32 left following a trey from Dezeree White (Houston, Texas). A few minutes later, Kassidy Daugherty (Owensboro, Ky.) hit a three of her own as the visitors took a comfortable 55-36 lead into the final quarter.

The Eagles held a 55-38 lead early in the fourth, but they closed the game on a 22-6 run en route to the 33-point victory.

Amoni White led the way for the Blue and Gold with 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting in 17 minutes off the bench. She also added four rebounds and a team-high four steals to her stat line. Dezeree White, meanwhile, finished with 11 points in the win. Keia McCullogh (Nashville, Tenn.) led the rebounding effort with a game-high 10 boards.

The Eagles forced 30 turnovers and collected 19 steals which led to a 30-12 advantage in points off turnovers. Midway doubled the Pomeroys up in second-chance points 18-9 and held a 36-14 edge in bench points.

Minner's squad will now have the next week off from competition to focus on finals as they'll host IU East (Ind.) on Saturday (Dec. 10) to open a four-game homestand.
