Midway Women's Basketball comes from behind to defeat IU Southeast

MIDWAY, Ky. -- Following a dominant road victory on Tuesday, the Midway women's basketball team returned to Marshall Gymnasium to play their final home game of the regular season on Thursday when they hosted IU Southeast (Ind.).

Similar to their previous home game, the Eagles faced a 38-33 deficit at intermission, but they cut the deficit to three entering the final stanza where they outscored the visitors by 10 en route to claiming the 75-68 come from behind victory.

With the win, Chris Minner's squad extends their win streak to seven as they improve to 22-6 overall and 14-2 in River States Conference play, while IU Southeast drops to 11-16 overall and 7-10 in league play with the loss.

The Eagles got off to a bit a slow start as the Grenadiers sprinted to a 9-2 lead before maintaining an 18-11 lead with 2:41 left in the opening stanza.

Midway answered and got a pair of layups from Kindall Talley (Frankfort, Ky.) and Jalyn Jackson (Cold Spring, Ky.) before Allyson Callahan (Morehead, Ky.) nailed a triple cutting the IU Southeast lead to 21-18 following the opening 10 minutes.

A pair of layups by Dezeree White (Houston, Texas) gave Midway their first lead of the contest early in the second period, but IU Southeast soon matched their largest lead of the contest at 38-31 before carrying a 38-33 lead into the locker room.

A triple from Talley and a layup by White tied the game at 38 less than a minute into the second half, but IU Southeast responded with a quick 5-0 run of their own. A few minutes later, Talley spotted up for another trey to tie the game at 47 with 5:53 left in the third.

The Grenadiers, however, answered once again as they pushed their lead back to five on two separate occasions before taking a 56-53 lead into the fourth and final stanza.

Midway turned up the pressure in the fourth period where they forced the Grenadiers into six turnovers, while shooting 60 percent from the floor and 50 percent from downtown. They made their move when they faced a 61-59 deficit with 6:30 left.

Keia McCullogh (Nashville, Tenn.) scored four straight points before White added a layup that capped a 6-0 run giving the Blue and Gold the lead for good.

IU Southeast cut the deficit in half, but Talley answered with a personal 7-0 run hitting back-to-back triples before Jackson hit 3-of-4 from the charity stripe in the final minute to help seal the 75-68 victory.

All five starters scored in double figures for the Eagles, while they also had three players notch a double-double in the win. Allyson Callahan led the way with a terrific all-around performance including 17 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.

Dezeree White added a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Keia McCullogh carded one of her own with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Kindall Talley chipped in 15 points hitting 4-of-5 from three, while Jalyn Jackson just missed a double-double with 13 points and seven assists in a winning effort.

The Eagles are now scheduled to wrap up the regular season on Saturday (Feb. 19) with a road trip to Brescia (Ky.) for a 4 p.m. ET tipoff. They dominated the first meeting as they handed the Bearcats a 102-55 loss on Dec. 14, 2021.
