Box Score OWENSBORO, Ky. -- After grinding out a tough win over IU Southeast (Ind.), the Midway women's basketball team wrapped up the regular season on Saturday (Feb. 19) with a road trip to Brescia (Ky.) for a River States Conference matchup.
A total of 15 different players etched their name in the scoring column for the Eagles with seven of those players scoring at least seven points as they would lead by as many as 46 en route to the 93-52 victory.
With the win, Chris Minner's squad improves to 23-6 overall and 15-2 in River States Conference play as they wrap up the regular season riding an eight-game win streak. Their 23 wins is tied for the most since the 2007-08 team went 23-8 overall.
After winning the RSC West Division, the Eagles will now turn their attention to the RSC Tournament which gets underway on Wednesday (Feb. 23). They're scheduled to host the quarterfinals at 6 p.m. ET against Ohio Christian University.
Saturday's contest saw the Blue and Gold put together their best shooting performance of the season as they shot a season-high 53.8 percent from the floor. They also hit 8-of-21 from behind the arc for 38.1 percent.
Midway's defense, meanwhile, forced the Bearcats into 24 turnovers as they shot just 33.3 percent from the field. Brescia – who fell to 3-24 overall and 2-16 in league play with the loss – hit just 3-of-11 from three for 27.3 percent.
The Eagles held a 15-6 advantage following the opening stanza, but the second and third quarters is where they did most of their damage. They outscored the Bearcats 37-25 in the first and fourth quarter, but in the second and third periods they outscored the home team 56-27.
The Bearcats cut Midway's lead to three early in the second frame, but the Eagles went on a 26-7 run to finish the quarter as they took a 41-19 lead into the locker room. That 26-7 run included a 13-0 spurt lasting nearly five minutes.
They went on another 13-0 run late in the third quarter as they would lead by as many as 46 in the final stanza before cruising to the 93-52 victory to close out the regular season.
The players scored in double figures for the Eagles led by 13 points from Mi'lan Miller (Houston, Texas). Ta'Tayana Outlaw (Clarksville, Tenn.) added 11 points and five rebounds, while Leah Shelley (LaCenter, Ky.) chipped in 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists in the win.
Jalyn Jackson (Cold Spring, Ky.) and Kindall Talley (Frankfort, Ky.) each scored nine points, while Allyson Callahan (Morehead, Ky.) and Keia McCullogh (Nashville, Tenn.) carded seven points each.
Tipoff for Midway's quarterfinal matchup on Wednesday is set for 6 p.m. ET in Marshall Gymnasium.
