Eagles And Lions Battle To 2-2 Draw

Box Score

MIDWAY, Ky. – On Thursday afternoon, the Midway University soccer team returned to the friendly confines of the Midway Soccer Field to host Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.). Despite taking the lead in each half, the Eagles saw the Lions find an equalizer both times and the two squads had to settle for a 2-2 draw.

With the tie, Midway has earned a 2-1-1 record for the year while the Lions stand at 4-1-1.

Midway got on the board first when Mariana Casey (Georgetown, Ky.) scored her second of the year in the eighth minute. In the 30th minute, the visiting Lions found the back of the net and the two teams entered the locker room with the score 1-1.

The Eagles got off to an even quicker start in the second stanza when Maggie Sauer (Henderson, Ky.) tucked away a loose ball in the 46th minute off an assist from older sister Marissa. Unfortunately for the Eagles, the Lions equalized again in the 72nd minute and neither team could find the back of the net for the remainder of the afternoon.

For the game, Midway was outshot by the Lions 17-10. In between the pipes, Caylee Thompson (Midway, Ky.) notched eight saves in the contest.

Midway women's soccer will return to action on Saturday, September 17 when it hosts Shawnee State (Ohio). Opening kickoff with the Bears is scheduled for high noon at the Midway Soccer Field.
