Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. – On Saturday afternoon, the Midway University women's soccer team wrapped up its two-game homestand when it faced off with Shawnee State (Ohio). Six opening period goals for the Bears proved to be more than sufficient as the visitors earned a 10-1 victory over the Eagles.
With the loss, Midway falls to 2-2-1 for the year while the Bears improve to 6-0-1.
Shawnee State got on the board in the third minute and went on a 6-0 run to open the game in the first 26 minutes. Midway then broke up the shutout when Cameron Banfield (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored directly off a free kick from distance to notch her second of the season.
In the second stanza, the Bears notched goals in the 46th, 54th, 66th and 89th minutes to close out the scoring.
For the match, Shawnee State outshot Midway 28-5. In goal, Yasmeen Shalash (Nicholasville, Ky.) recorded 13 saves after coming on in relief for starting goalie Caylee Thompson (Midway, Ky.).
Midway women's soccer will return to action on Saturday, September 24 when it opens River States Conference play against St. Mary of the Woods (Ind.). Opening kickoff with the Pomeroys is scheduled for 1 p.m. in West Terre Haute, Indiana.
