Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. -- Following a sweep of Oakland City (Ind.) on Tuesday, the Midway women's volleyball team suffered their first loss of the season on Friday (Sept. 23) when they welcomed IU Kokomo (Ind.) to Marshall Gymnasium.
It was a tough night for the Midway offense with the Cougars holding the Eagles well below their season averages en route to claiming the 3-0 sweep (25-20, 25-14, 25-18).
With the loss, Jonea Rima's club drops to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in River States Conference play, while the Cougars improve to 13-3 overall and 2-0 in league play.
IU Kokomo finished the contest with a .229 hitting percentage, while their defense held the home team to a season-low 29 kills and a .036 attacking clip. The Cougars were much more efficient committing just 14 attacking errors compared to 25 attacking miscues by the Eagles.
Aubry Koester (Apple Valley, Calif.) led the offensive attack with nine kills, while Tori Richman (Fort Wayne, Ind.) recorded seven in the loss.
Pilar Daugherty (Las Cruces, N.M.) dished out 18 assists and Valerie Ramos (San Juan, Puerto Rico) added seven, while Mariana Rodriguez (Houston, Texas) led the defensive effort with 12 digs. Anju Sugiya (Tokyo, Japan) and Daugherty each carded six digs in a losing effort.
The Eagles will now look to bounce back on Saturday (Sept. 24) when they host St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) at 1 p.m. ET in Marshall Gymnasium.
