MIDWAY, Ky. – As we enter the cooler days of fall, the Midway University esports team has opened its 2022-23 campaign. Through two weeks of competition, the Call of Duty team has earned a 2-0 record while the Rocket League team claimed a victory over the University of Louisville in its season opener.
The Call of Duty team opened its season when it faced off with the University of Ottawa (Ont.). In a game that was tight throughout the contest, the Eagles claimed a 3-2 victory to start the season 1-0.
In its second contest of the campaign, the Eagles took on Lakeland University (Wis.). Midway was able to claim a 3-0 sweep against the Muskies, improving to 2-0 on the young season.
Rocket League opened its season when it clashed with the University of Louisville (Ky.) Gold team. The Eagles earned a 3-0 sweep and were led offensively by Nate Martin (Pickerington, Ohio) who scored five goals and added three assists. Martin also added four saves on defense.
A second key offensive contributor was Trevor Alexander (Somerset, Ky.) who notched three goals to go with an assist and three saves. The defensive effort was led by Lonnie W. Loveless III (Somerset, Ky.) who notched five saves along with a pair of goals and two assists.
The Overwatch team opened its season with a matchup against Rio Grande (Ohio) but lost 3-1. In the Eagles second game they played Defiance College (Ohio) and claimed a 3-0 sweep to even their record at 1-1.
The League of Legends squad first played a match with Concordia University-Ann Arbor (Mich.) and dropped a 2-0 decision. In their second matchup of the year the Eagles faced off with Redbird Junior Academy and were swept 2-0 to fall to 0-2 on the season.
Coach Alyssa Tinker's squad returns to action when the Rocket League team faces Catawba College (N.C.) on Friday, September 30 at 7 p.m. The League of Legends team plays at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5 against Eastern Kentucky while the Call of Duty team looks to improve to 3-0 when it takes on Coffeyville Community College (Kan.) at the same time.
