MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway's Esports Overwatch team opened postseason play with an impressive 3-0 win against East Central University (Okla.) in the opening round of the NECC Division IX Central Playoffs Friday.

The fourth-seeded Eagles got a sweep in the best-of-five games format, winning the respective contests by the finals of 2-0, 5-4 and 1-0.

Midway will now get a week to prepare for the semifinals, which will be against No. 1 seed Oklahoma City University, which defeated Murray State Blue 3-0 in its opening-round match Friday. The April 4 match is currently scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.


LEAGUE OF LEGENDS LOSES OPENER

The news wasn't as good for League of Legends on Tuesday, as the fourth-seeded Eagles lost 2-0 to No. 5 Paradise Valley Community College (Ariz.) in the opening round of the NECC Central Playoffs.

Despite losing out on a chance to earn an automatic bid, Midway can still potentially earn an at-large bid into the national tournament, thanks to its 17-3 record.
