Andrew Garza named new Esports coach

MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway University is proud to announce the hiring of Andrew Garza as its new Head Esports Coach. Garza brings a wealth of experience in collegiate and semi-professional esports, along with a proven track record of competitive success, program development, and leadership.

With an academic background in sports management and history and multiple coaching stints at the collegiate level, Garza is poised to elevate Midway's esports program to new heights.

Garza most recently served as Esports Coordinator at Central Maine Community College, where he managed a program of over 30 student-athletes, overseeing coaching, budgeting, logistics, and community partnerships.

Prior to that, he was the Head Coach for Call of Duty at Cumberland University, where he led his team to a national championship and multiple top-six finishes in national tournaments. His efforts earned him a nomination for NACE COD Coach of the Year in 2024.

As a former player and caster, Garza brings a unique perspective to coaching, having competed at a high level in numerous national events and served as Lead Caster and Statistician for the American Gaming Network.

These roles allowed him to cultivate leadership, communication, and analytical skills that continue to inform his coaching style.

His competitive achievements include winning the 2022 College COD Academy National Championship as a player and leading teams to top placements across major LAN events and online competitions.

"I am excited to start this new chapter of my life at Midway University," Garza said. "I am really appreciative of the opportunity Midway Athletics have given me. I intend on doing everything in my power to not only win as many national championships for the program as possible, but also empower the students to be the best version of themselves in and out of the game."
