Midway University Names Drew Junion Head Esports Coach and Part-Time Sports Information

MIDWAY, Ky. — Midway University has announced the hiring of Drew Junion as its new Head Esports Coach and part-time Assistant to Sports Information.

Junion brings collegiate esports coaching, team management, recruitment, information technology, and student leadership experience to Midway. Most recently, he served as the Head Esports Coach at Lawrence Technological University, where he managed a roster of 23 student-athletes and supervised an assistant coach. During his tenure, Junion guided the program to its first winning season and achieved a 92% win rate across multiple tournaments.

"We are pleased to welcome Drew to Midway University," said Dr. Heath Morgan, Vice President of Athletics and Student Affairs. "His experience building collegiate esports programs, developing student-athletes, and using data to improve team performance will be valuable as we continue to strengthen our esports program. Drew's background in information technology and communication will also make him a strong addition to our sports information staff."

At Lawrence Tech, Junion developed structured training programs emphasizing game mechanics, teamwork, and long-term player development. He also used video analysis and emerging competitive strategies to create data-driven training plans and match strategies.

Before joining Lawrence Tech, Junion served as a coach, team manager, and captain for the Lourdes University Esports Team from 2021 to 2024. In that role, he built and managed rosters across several esports titles, including Overwatch, League of Legends, and Rocket League. He also coordinated practices, competitions, qualifiers, and game-day responsibilities while supporting recruitment and scheduling through an extensive network of esports contacts.

In his sports information role, Junion will assist with promoting Midway's athletic programs and student-athletes through game coverage, statistics, digital content, and other athletic communications responsibilities.

Junion attended Lourdes University, where he studied business administration.
