Box Score CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio -- Following a comfortable win over Alice Lloyd (Ky.) earlier in the week, the Midway women's volleyball team made it two consecutive victories on Friday when they won a five-set thriller over Ohio Christian inside the Maxwell Center in Circleville.
In a match that saw all five sets decided by three points or less, the Eagles were able to make a 2-1 lead stand with a thrilling 3-2 victory (23-25, 26-24, 25-22, 24-26, 17-15).
Midway, who improves to 10-10 overall and 4-8 in River States Conference play with the win, finished the match with 82 kills, which is the most in a single match since at least 2007, the first year the program had stats recorded in an online database.
The Eagles had two players record at least 20 kills, with Aubry Koester (Apple Valley, Calif.) and Emily Slaughter (Gallatin, Tenn.) combining for 50 of the 82 kills. Koester finished with 26 kills and 15 digs to go with a team-high four aces, while Slaughter added 24 kills and 22 digs.
Seven of Slaughter's 24 kills came in a back-and-forth fifth set that saw Midway erase a 9-7 deficit. Ohio Christian fought off a match point at 14-13 and won the next two points to serve for the match, holding a 15-14 advantage.
Midway then turned to Slaughter, who tied the match before Valerie Ramos (San Juan, Puerto Rico) served an ace to give her squad their second match point. This time around, the visitors clinched the thrilling victory after Slaughter put down her career-high 24th kill.
Hannah Brink (Greenville, Mich.), meanwhile, also recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs in the victory.
Ramos, who had missed seven matches earlier in the season, seemed to return to form, dishing out a career-high 65 assists to go with her 15 digs. Kylie Kohrs (Fort Thomas, Ky.) and Emma Krutsinger (Corbin, Ky.) chipped in 25 and 14 digs, respectively in the win.
The Eagles will wrap up their trip to the 'Buckeye State' on Saturday when they take on River States newcomer Shawnee State (Ohio). First serve is set for noon ET.
