Box Score OWENSBORO, Ky. -- Fighting for their playoff life, the Midway women's volleyball team picked up their third win in four outings on Tuesday (Oct. 24) when they recorded a convincing 3-0 victory (25-10, 25-13, 25-9) over Brescia (Ky.) in Owensboro.
Midway, who improves to 11-11 overall and 5-9 in River States Conference play, recorded a .378 hitting mark after putting down 44 kills in their 98 swings. The Eagles recorded six total blocks and didn't give up a service ace while holding the Bearcats to a -.043 hitting percentage.
The Eagles won the first two sets handily, but it was the third frame where they posted an incredible .562 hitting mark. The visitors didn't commit an attacking error en route to putting down 18 kills in 32 swings.
The Bearcats (2-24, 1-15 RSC) scored the first point in the third set, but Midway rattled off eight straight to take an 8-1 lead. Aubry Koester (Apple Valley, Calif.) who finished with 17 kills and a .517 hitting mark, had four kills in the stretch to spark the rally.
Hannah Brink (Greenville, Mich.) and Emily Slaughter (Gallatin, Tenn.) later put together a string of kills as Midway put the finishing touches on the sweep with a 25-9 victory in the third.
Brink would finish with 10 kills and Slaughter added seven, while Meghan Adams (Paducah, Ky.) turned in a solid outing with eight kills in 15 swings for a .533 attacking clip.
Valerie Ramos (San Juan, Puerto Rico) dished out 14 assists and recorded six digs, while Kylie Kohrs (Fort Thomas, Ky.) led the defensive effort with a team-high 13 digs. Emma Krutsinger (Corbin, Ky.) and Koester, meanwhile, each carded 10 digs in a winning effort.
Kennedy Mang's squad is set to return to action on Friday (Oct. 27) when they welcome IU Southeast (Ind.) to Marshall Gymnasium. First serve is set for 7 p.m. ET.
