WHITING, Ind. -- Just seven days after picking up a tough win against Oakland City (Ind.), the Midway sprint football team returned to action on Saturday when they made their final road trip of the season with a trip to Whiting, Ind. to battle Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.).
It was a tough outing for the Blue and Gold as they turned the ball over eight times while being overwhelmed by the Crimson Wave en route to a 37-3 defeat.
The loss drops the Eagles to 2-4 overall and 2-4 within the Midwest Sprint Football League. The Crimson Wave, meanwhile, extend their win streak to three, improving to 3-3 overall and 3-3 in the MSFL.
Calumet raced to a 10-0 lead and didn't look back. Their first points came courtesy of a Midway fumble after forcing a punt on the game's opening drive. Jaren Saez hit a 25-yard field goal before Elijah Antis added a 32-yard touchdown run.
The Eagles answered later in the first period with a 6-play, 42-yard drive that resulted in three points. Dameon Miller (Plainfield, Ind.) helped set up a 25-yard field goal from Lucas Wilder (Goodlettsville, Tenn.) with a 27-yard reception.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, that would be the only offense they would muster, as Calumet scored 27 unanswered en route to the 37-3 victory. The 27 unanswered featured a trio of touchdown runs from Nino Barbosa, who threw for 156 yards and ran for 18.
Keegan Hill (Alexandria, Ky.) led the offensive effort, throwing for 163 yards on 15 completions.
Connor Baker (Hodgenville, Ky.) was his top target with three catches for 83 yards. Isaiah McMichael (Carrollton, Ga.) and Miller had 44 and 41 receiving yards, respectively.
Defensively, Brady Bond (Burlington, Ky.) led the way with nine tackles to go with a pass breakup and a fumble recovery. Luke Guerrero (Santa Maria, Calif.) and Andrew Kronenbitter (Millersport, Ohio), meanwhile, had seven tackles apiece.
The Eagles are set to return to action on Saturday (Nov. 4) when they host St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) in their season finale. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET at Western Hills High School.
